Afghanistan – what’s it all about?

As this week’s elections in Afghanistan draw ever closer, and the US and British casualties continue to rise, it seems that the question of why we’re there in the first place comes up more and more frequently.

We’re there becuase we are defending ourselves and becuase it is a just and noble cause.  And we must stay the course and finish the job – to do otherwise would be an insult to all (Afghani and Westerner) who have suffered and died during this war.

Moreover here are a few reminders about why we’re there:

  • 11 September 2001 – New York and Washington D.C.
  • 12 October 2002 – Bali
  • 11 March 2004 – Madrid
  • 7 July 2005 – London
  • and more…

All of these attacks were carried out by fanatics who’d been turned into terrorists at training camps in Afghanistan and Pakistan.  Need another reason?

How about this?
