More about the UK’s new MTP camo uniforms

The MoD released two photos today that show the MTP pattern in close-up, and in a terrain suitability match with DPM-Woodland and DPM-Desert.

Nice one Lawrence. I’ll be a monkey’s uncle if anyone can tell the difference between MTP and MultiCam at a short distance.

Looks like the US Army will have to go with Ugly Coyote Pattern – Disaster (UCP-D) after all – they won’t want to be confused with us Brits!

  I think you mean, “at anything BUT a short distance”. I agree that they are very close – I actually think that MTP looks better than MC.
  
  Much harder to see is the influence of DPM on MTP…

    PenCott was not one of the patterns that was considered by the MoD. I don’t know the exact details, but the DSTL tested some patterns that were developed in house, as well as Multicam – as the sole commercial pattern considered – based on the recommendation of forces that had used MultiCam in Afghanistan. Don’t forget also that this was a programme to achieve a multi-environment camouflage – PenCott is a “GreenZone” camo.

  That’s right. Although a MoD procurer for Special Forces was briefed on the pattern, and a scientist at DSTL subsequently , it is seems clear in hindsight that the SF wanted MultiCam, one way or another (there’s a reason it’s also known in some circles as ‘Martycam’ but they’ll shoot me if I tell you). The UK were not able to license the pattern for MoD production, so the bean counters said they could order a bespoke pattern, but in order to justify the expense, it must be issued to the regular army too.
  
  From what I’ve been told, I think it is unlikely to be issued outside of Afghanistan rotations though. DPM ain’t dead yet!
