UK Government appeals for anti-terror gadgets
The BBC has reported that an appeal for inventors to develop anti-terrorist gadgets has been launched by the government.
The appeal is part of the Home Office’s three-year Science and Technology Counter-Terrorism Strategy – known by the acronym “CONTEST”.
The first “gadget” revealed to the public is this “Air Launch Running Gear Entanglement System”. It may not be a snappy title, or a sexy name, but its pretty clear what it does, right? Its designed to launch a high tensile net, through the air, to tangle up a boat’s propeller, and bring it to a swift halt. And it looks like a grenade launcher mated with something from the deck of fishing trawler.
